At 10 days, Jewel's curled tongue is beginning to flatten. In a week, she will be able to lap up liquid food from a bowl.

Notice her almost iridescent pink nose. Most of the pups are developing black noses at this time. But Jewel is a "livernose" -- a ridgeback variation with no black melanin. What is normally black in other ridgebacks is brown in a livernosed ridgeback.

And no, we didn't turn the picture sideways. The beddding is draped over the box and she is squooshed against the side. Being pressed on gives a feeling of security.
